New label, new sizes, exactly the same product, ingredients and formula:
You will notice some changes to the labelling but don't worry this is exactly the same product that Red Horse Products have been making for years. The labels have been updated to meet labelling regulatory requirements. Meaning they have omitted some labelling elements that are not mandatory and added others that are. Red Horse Products still use the same quality ingredients in the same high concentrations!
Trials showed that although Hoof-Stuff was brilliant in deeper cracks and crevices in the hoof it was unable to stay in shallower cracks and on the surface of the hoof. We came upon the idea that since the only thing that consistently stuck to the areas of the foot we were trying to protect was in fact mud! So we tried to create something similar that had a beneficial rather than detrimental effect - thus Artimud was born.
Artimud is a clay-based antimicrobial hoof putty excellent for treating white line disease, hoof cracks and thrush. It is also particularly useful for filling the collateral grooves and central sulcus when applying impression material or pads under shoes.
Artimud can be smoothed, rolled, squashed, spread and moulded to stay in the area it was put so its active antibacterial, antifungal and protective agents can allow the area to heal itself up naturally.
We have found it useful in the packing of many of the same cavities as Hoof Stuff (although not as effective in deeper, anaerobic cracks) but mainly in shallower white line cracks, frog clefts, external cracks etc.
INGREDIENTS
All of the ingredients in Artimud are natural and have been chosen either for their antimicrobial properties or to enhance the consistency of the putty.
Green French Clay - an antibacterial clay which gives the putty the perfect consistency
Bio-active Honey - for its antibacterial and antifungal qualities plus ability to make the putty sticky and pliable
Zinc Oxide - a powerful, yet harmless antibacterial powder
Eucalyptus Oil - as well as being a highly effective antifungal, this essential oil assists in the toughening of weakened structures
All the ingredients in Artimud are there to either have an antibacterial/antifungal effect or to improve the consistency and hence the longevity of its effect.
Use Artimud in shallower, more open holes/cracks and Hoof-Stuff in deeper, tighter ones.
Do you have to remove and clean crevice in toe daily or does the product stay in for a certain time?
The length of time the product stays in for varies (dependent on the environment and the specific condition) but generally if the Artimud is staying well in the crevice then replacement is not necessary. Generally, people find they have to replace it every few days. Once the crevice has had its initial flushing it will likely not be necessary to clean it out again if it does not get dirt in it again (i.e. if the pack is staying in place).
Should I use Hoof-Stuff or Artimud?
Hoof Stuff is generally used where the crevice is deeper and able to retain a fabric-based pack. As a general rule deep and narrow = Hoof Stuff, shallow and wide = Artimud.
As a test see if damp cotton wool will pack into the crack. If it will Hoof Stuff will probably work best, if not opt for Artimud.
Add a 500ml bottle of Sole Cleanse here. It has been found useful to flush cracks in the white line, frog and other crevices in the horse's foot prior to packing them with Artimud or Hoof-Stuff.
