We have also added a few new products to our website.
Starting with the Idolo Tether Tie. Whether you have a young horse learning to tie up, or you have an older horse who doesn't like to be tied up then this is the tool for you! The Idolo works on pressure and release to train your horse the right behaviour.
Also added under the 'Handy Items' tab is the fantastic 'Horse Stuff' Big Bag made from 10oz cotton canvas. I recently used mine at a sleepover at a friends the other night. Clothes and towel in the big bag and toiletries in the small bag. For $30 2 bags in 1 is a bargain!
Under the 'Handy Items' tab you can also find clips, hitching rings and Equi-shaves. Keep an eye out as new products are being added over the coming months.
We also have 2 new exciting products that will be added in the next couple of weeks. Can't say much else yet as the products are still in transit.
Our Junior Sponsored Rider has also been making a name for herself along with her pony Binnowie After Dark in the Dressage scene. Finalists in the Dressage QLD Diarmin Park Newcomer Young Rider of the Year and Sommerlyn Lisa Memorial Newcomer Pony of the Year awards.
Awesome result for a country kid from Cairns. Just shows what dedication, hard work, early mornings, training and never ending support from families, coaches and sponsors can achieve.
Wishing you loads of luck Darcy and Jimmy
Well it's been a while since I've added something to the news section and wow have we got some news to share!
Firstly some fantastic news on our Junior Sponsored Rider, Darcy Flanagan and her amazing pony Binnowie After Dark (aka Jimmy). Darcy and Jimmy along with her parents, have just returned from their trip to Sydney for the 2016 Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships.
Darcy and Jimmy competed in the Primary Preliminary and Novice Dressage Classes riding 4 tests in total. Their goal for this year’s Champs was to finish in the top 10 in each class. They almost achieved this with a 6th, 2 x 9th place and 14th. Scores were very tight with the majority of classes having only 2-4% between 2 and 9th place.
The 6th place was in the Preliminary 1.3 resulting in her winning a gorgeous rosette. Darcy’s results enabled the QLD Primary Dressage Team to win the overall 2016 Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships - Primary Dressage Team Championship. The top 4 riders in the QLD team (including Darcy) were presented with a Champion Rosette and embroidered horse rug. Victoria placed third and NSW 2nd in the Primary Dressage Team Championship.
Once again Darcy had a great time and especially enjoyed being a QLD Team member. She made many new friends and caught up with friends she made last year at the 2015 Australian Champs. Dressage is often see as an individual sport however the Interschool Equestrian program definitely proves this is not the case.
And our second piece of exciting news is that we are now stockists of the amazing StripHair Grooming Products. These amazing products are available through our website. Click on the 'Purchase Product' tab to place your order.
Our junior sponsored rider Darcy Flanagan and Jimmy aka Binnowie After Dark travelled to Toowoomba and back at the end of June for the 2016 IQ Champs.
They arrived safely in Toowoomba on 23 June after trekking all the way down from Cairns. They had two sunny warmish days out of the 8 that they were there.
Darcy and Jimmy competed in the two Primary Preliminary level dressage tests on Sunday 26 June. They achieved a 6th and 4th place in the tests and achieved 4th place overall in the Primary Preliminary Championship (out of 28 riders) which means they have earnt a place in the 2016 QLD squad for Nationals in Sydney.
Darcy and Jimmy also competed in the Open Novice Freestyle dressage on Sunday afternoon. This was the first time Darcy and Jimmy had ever done a freestyle test. Darcy was the only Primary school competitor and Jimmy was the only pony in this class and they came 3rd out of 15 riders.
Unfortunately on Monday morning whilst warming up in the cold and sleet for their first Novice level dressage test Jimmy slipped on the wet grass and tore a muscle in his rump and had to be scratched from the remainder of the competition. Darcy was very disappointed however as always she placed her pony’s welfare first.
He is now on the mend and will be competing at the Cairns Show Dressage on the 16/17 July.
Darcy and Jimmy have now received their letter from Interschool Queensland offering them a place in the 2016 IQ QLD Dressage Squad to compete at SIEC (Sydney) in the 2016 National Interschool Champs at the end of September.
Darcy and Jimmy live in Cairns, FNQ. Darcy has been the only Interschool rider in FNQ to make the QLD Squad for Nationals in 2015 and now 2016. It is a huge undertaking to travel down to Sydney for this event. Darcy's parents will need to take 2 weeks leave from their businesses. It will be a 4 day trip just driving to Sydney and 4 days return. They will be away 12 days in total.
Darcy will be representing FNQ at a National level. All nomination, stabling and camping fees for the event, as well as team uniform must be funded by the competitor. Darcy and her parents would welcome any support they can gather to assist with these costs and fuel to Sydney and back.
Nominations close early August so if you could find your way to providing support to Darcy and Jimmy by the end of July it would be greatly appreciated.
This is Darcy's last year riding Jimmy as she will be too tall for him next year. It is also her last opportunity to represent QLD as a Primary School Student.
Darcy is representing the entire dressage community in FNQ at a National event so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. A gofundme account has been set up for Darcy and Jimmy. To make a donation click on the link https://www.gofundme.com/2dz4ug8s
Another great competition over the weekend for our 2 sponsored riders, this time hosted by FNEG. It was also a very special competition being the Amy Abrahams Memorial Competition. Amy was tragically taken in a motor vehicle accident in May 2013 at Mt Tamborine. Competitors and spectators were asked to wear pink in support.
Amy started her riding career in Cairns where she competed locally in Dressage and Pony Club. Amy relocated to Mt Tamborine to further her riding where she competed in Eventing. It was fantastic to see so many riders compete over the weekend to honour and remember Amy.
Our senior sponsored rider Erin Flanagan had a great weekend on her 3yo Hanoverian gelding Benchmark Live the Dream. For such a young horse he certainly makes a big impression! He took the spooky surrounds and puddles all in his huge stride.
GHP junior sponsored rider Darcy Flanagan had an equally great weekend with awesome scores which saw her marking higher than a few of the senior riders in the same classes. Well done Darcy!
The 2016 competition season is now in full swing for all equestrian disciplines!
First dressage competition for 2016 for GHP sponsored riders Erin Flanagan and Darcy Flanagan over the weekend hosted by ATDDEA. Very first competition for Erin's lovely 3 year old Hanoverian gelding Benchmark Live The Dream (aka Larry) and first competition for Darcy and Binowwie After Dark (aka Jimmy) competing in Official Pony Dressage. Well done girls!
Enjoy your year everyone and ride safe!
What a fantastic trip to Toowoomba to attend the Total Equine Qld Horse Expo. We are so proud to have been involved with such a fantastic event!
Although it was a long drive down from Cairns (with a couple of minor mechanical and fuel issues with our camper van) we thoroughly enjoyed our time away. We were lucky enough to have our Trade Stand right next door to one of our stockists Ivanka from Horses-store.com. It was lovely to spend some time with her and we shared quite a lot of laughs. A big thankyou again to Theresa who once again accompanied me on the trip. I really can't do all of this on my own!
We are pleased to announce we have added our 13th stockist to our ever increasing list. We welcome Sue and her family from Hoof and Horn Produce and Saddlery in Proserpine. Some of you may recognise Headley the pink horse out front of their shop as you are driving along the highway in that area.
Hoof and Horn Produce and Saddlery offer a wide selection of competition and country saddlery and clothing. Latest styles from Europe along with Australian and American brands Ärait". Their experienced staff can offer advice in feeding and veterinary products. The drive-thru produce has feed for big and small animals including fish. For travellers we offer a fatigue stopover, with goosenecks and trucks able to travel around the building for easy entry and departure.
Whilst we were in Toowoomba, GHP Junior Sponsored Rider Darcy Flanagan was down in Sydney competing at the National Interschool Championships. Darcy competed in the Novice Primary Dressage and has managed qualifying scores for 2016 State Champs and helped Qld Team win reserve champs. What a fantastic result for our little 10 year old rider!
Guardian Horse Products travelled down to Caboolture mid August to attend the Qld State Dressage Championships along with Senior Sponsored Rider Erin Flanagan who rode in the Medium and Advanced on Ordos (aka Jack) and didn't she do us all proud.
A huge thank you to my bestie Jane Knight for making the trip with me. It's a long drive from Cairns to Caboolture but we had a great time and it was wonderful to get to spend some quality time together.
GHP sat down with Erin Flanagan to give us a run down on her tests at the Championships.
"We had a super successful journey and experienced lots of training opportunities. I got to ride in 3 different indoor arenas, put an immense amount of pressure on Jack and myself and came through the other side, and got to ride alongside the top riders and horses in the state. Jack and I survived the first day of our competition. We had a LOT of tension in both tests but no bucks! Percentages were consistent with what we have been getting at home. Results from the Medium 4.2 (our first test) were 62.82% for equal 16th place and 63.65% in the Medium 4.3 for 13th place.
Tough marking in the Advanced tests today. I feel like our tests flowed better and were more expressive as Jack was a lot more relaxed. Scored 61.64% in the Advanced 5.2 for 15th place. Lots of rider error for our ride in the indoor scoring 59.80% in the Advanced 5.3.
All in all a successful weekend competing alongside the SEQ's. Our best performances at the State Champs to date and another notch on the belt of horsemanship; riding the tense horse."
Erin and Jack will be competing at the Atherton Tablelands & District Dressage Equestrian Association Championships this weekend along with our Junior Sponsored Rider Darcy Flanagan. GHP wishes both girls loads of luck for the weekend. We will be there cheering them on.
Platypus Stockfeeds (Maryborough) have come on board as our 9th stockist and have already placed a second order since our visit in August. Thanks so much for your support.
Now the weather is starting to warm up in most States of Australia there seem to be a lot of cases of skin irritations rearing their ugly heads. Production has stepped up with 30 bottles of product selling in a matter of days. If you don't have a stockist in your area and would like to, please drop us an email with your location and preferred store.
GHP are gearing up for our last road trip for the year and will be heading down to Toowoomba towards the end of September to attend the Total Equine Qld Horse Expo and are very excited to be a part of this wonderful event. If you're in the area pop in and say 'hi' and take advantage of our TEQ specials.
Another Cairns Show Dressage Competition all wrapped up for another year! Congratulations to Far North Equestrian Group for hosting such a wonderful event. Well done to all riders who competed over the weekend and of course a big congratulations to GHP Sponsored Riders Erin Flanagan and Darcy Flanagan.
GHP Senior Sponsored Rider Erin Flanagan competed in the Medium and Advance over the weekend aboard Ordos (aka Jack). Erin tells us a little about her weekend competition.
"Jack and I seemed to get our act together for our tests on Saturday. We are starting to get over our ring nerves and have changed our warm-up to focus on lateral suppleness. I must remember that my job as the rider is to support Jack with my lower leg. Scores of 63.056% for 1st in the Medium 4.1 and 64.394% for 2nd in the Advanced 5.1.
Sunday we had an improvement in percentages at both levels. I finally feel as if I have my "conversation" back with my horse. Jack and I are starting to get our groove back and are working as a partnership again. It has been an incredibly hard road since the QLD State Championships in 2013. Nerves, worry, tension and a sense of abandonment had crept into my test riding and my relationship with my horse. Today I got a thumbs up from B level judge Netta Stringer after our Medium test. That pretty much sums up my weekend.
A Massive thank you to my sponsor Guardian Horse Products for supporting me in my preparation for competition. They ensure that Jack is fit, healthy and happy in order to perform at his best!"
Erin will be travelling down to Caboolture in August to compete at the 2015 Qld State Dressage Championships and we wish her all the very best.GHP Junior Sponsored Rider Darcy Flanagan and her super talented pony Binnowie After Dark (aka Jimmy) had an equally awesome weekend with scores over 65% in 5 out of 6 rides.
GHP Junior Sponsored Rider Darcy Flanagan and her super talented pony Binnowie After Dark (aka Jimmy) had an equally awesome weekend with scores over 65% in 5 out of 6 rides.
Darcy and Jimmy have been invited to participate in the Interschool Queensland State Squad for Dressage at the Nationals to be held in Sydney at the end of September 2015. Darcy's mother Karen, says that Darcy is super excited especially as Pat (Darcy's father) has said "Yes"!! to the road trip. Whilst Karen and Pat appreciate that they are in a position to allow Darcy this great opportunity it still comes down to a girl and her horse, dedication and lots of hard work and a great bond between the two of them. Well done Darcy and Jimmy, what an inspirational 10 year old!
WOW what a huge trip down to Maryborough for the Interschool Queensland State Championships. We are back home in Cairns now and planning our next trip south in August. Information on this trip will be posted here on our Facebook site and our Website in the coming weeks. We met a lot of lovely people in the Trade Village and hope to catch up at future events.
Thank you to Interschool Queensland for including us in this major event. Was awesome to see so many up and coming Junior Riders.
A huge congratulations goes to GHP Junior Sponsored Rider Darcy Flanagan and Binnowie After Dark (aka Jimmy). What an amazing team these two make - we are so proud! Jimmy did not put a foot wrong throughout the whole competition. 5th overall in the Interschool Queensland Dressage Championships Primary Novice (4th in the 2.1 and 6th in the 2.2).
Darcy and Jimmy are now back at home in Cairns attending a Tony Ernst Beginner Cutting Clinic being held at Crystal Cascades Horse Par. From dressage arenas to chasing cows. Is there anything these two can't do!
We are also very pleased to announce that we have now added 3 new stockists to the Guardian Horse Products family. A very warm welcome to Feed 2 Go in Townsville, Miners Stockfeeds in Mackay and Yeppoon Stockfeed in Yeppoon. It was lovely to meet each of the stockists and put faces to names.
And last but not least, a big humungous thanks to Theresa del Nido - my trusty sidekick for the whole trip. Even though she got us lost coming out of Innisfail on the way down (still don't know how that happened), her help and support is greatly appreciated. Funniest thing said by Theresa on our trip 'do pineapples grow underground?'. I was laughing so hard I almost had to pull the van over.
She did a fantastic job keeping the Facebook site up to date during our trip, making sure we were heading in the right direction (most of the time), keeping me hydrated and fed whilst I drove our trusty bus (Bertha) and helping set up/man/and disassemble our site in the Trade Village. Looking forward to our next road trip.
We are excited to announce that Guardian Horse Products will be heading down to Maryborough for the IQ State Championships in June. If anyone would like to see our products stocked in your local store/s please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will see if we can set up some appointments on our way down. We are leaving Cairns on the 24th June. We may be able to set up some appointments on our way back home as well. We will be leaving Maryborough on the 2nd July.
GHP will have a trade stand set up at the IQ State Championships in the Trade Village which runs from 28th June - 1st July. Pop in and say hi and take advantage of our IQ specials (offer only available on purchases at the Trade Village).
It was an up and down weekend for competitors at the recent Far North Equestrian Group Amy Abrahams Memorial Competition held at Redlynch Equestrian Park. Miserable weather on day one played havoc with horse and rider combinations which saw quite a few scratchings.
Luck was also not on the side of our Senior Sponsored Rider Erin Flanagan who retired from the Advance 5.1 with Ordos (aka Jack) not wanting to be a team player. He redeemed himself on day two with a lovely test in the Advanced 5.2 scoring 62.21%.
GHP Junior Sponsored Rider Darcy Flanagan rode six tests over the weekend on her little pocket rocket Binnowie After Dark (aka Jimmy) and what a great little team these two make. Saturday saw them ride in the Under 13 Preliminary 1.2 scoring 67.3%, Junior Preliminary 1.3 scoring 60.76% and finishing the day in the Junior Novice 2.1 scoring 64.07%.
The rain stopped and the sun came out on day two. Darcy and Jimmy rode in the Under 13 Preliminary 1.3 scoring 65.43%, the Junior Preliminary 1.1 scoring 65.68% and completing the weekend competition in the Junior Novice 2.2 scoring 59.5%. What a big weekend!
As mentioned, the weekend competition was held in Memoriam of Amy Abrahams who was tragically taken in a motor vehicle accident in May 2013 at Mt Tamborine. Competitors and spectators were asked to wear pink in support.
Amy started her riding career in Cairns where she competed locally in Dressage and Pony Club. The jumping bug struck and Amy relocated to Mt Tamborine to further her riding where she competed in Eventing. It was fantastic to see so many riders compete over the weekend to honour and remember Amy. We were lucky enough to have Channel 7 cover the weekend which aired on local TV on Tuesday evening.
I was truly blessed to have known Amy and watch her progress with her riding. I was fortunate enough to travel with Amy to a few Eventing Competitions over the years. Even though at times she almost scared the pants off me during the cross country phase, she truly was a gifted young rider. She will always remain close to my heart and is never too far from my thoughts.
Last weekend saw GHP heading up to Mareeba to support our 'Junior' sponsored rider Darcy Flanagan and her trusty pony Binnowie After Dark aka 'Jimmy' for the first ATDDEA comp for 2015. The weather was picture perfect although a little warm and dusty out in the main arena.
Darcy and Jimmy had a fantastic weekend riding 6 tests over the 2 day comp.
On Saturday placing 1st in the 12 Years and Under Prelim 1.1, a 2nd placing in the Junior Prelim 1.2 and another 1st place in the Junior Novice 2.1. Sunday saw Darcy riding in the 12 Years and Under Prelim 1.2 with a 1st, a 2nd placing in the Junior Prelim 1.3 and a 2nd placing in the Junior Novice 2.2. Well done Darcy! I think Jimmy earned some big cuddles and extra carrots in his dinner on Sunday night.
Darcy will be riding again in a few weeks at the next FNEG dressage competition being held on 16th & 17th May. This is the Annual Amy Abrahams Memorial Competition. Amy was a beloved member of the Cairns equestrian community and tragically lost her life to a car accident in 2013. In order to honour Amy and her memory all competitors and spectators are encouraged to wear a pink shirt.
Guardian Horse Products now have their own Polo Shirts and don't they look great! Made from a cotton and polyester blend they are great to ride in or just to wear casually. A big thanks goes to Coast Imagewear for helping us with the selection and embroidery of our new shirts.
Theresa del Nido is one of our earliest product users and our biggest fan so on searching for a model for our new Polo Shirts we saw it only fitting to select her. Theresa is always around to lend a hand where and when she can. She also competes in the local dressage competitions on her chestnut WB x TB gelding Binborrin Portant aka 'Jinx'.
What a fantastic turn out for the first Far North Equestrian Groups first competition of 2015. With rain leading up to the competition the weather cleared and with only a few light showers in the morning, it turned out to be a great day.
Unfortunately it was a rocky start to the competition year for our ‘Senior’ sponsored rider Erin Flanagan and Ordos aka ‘Jack’. Due to Jack sustaining a paddock injury on the Wednesday evening before the competition he was unable to compete.
Luckily Erin had their lovely 6yo stock horse x quarter horse pony mare Milly to ride. Erin says "Milly is proving to be a super, uncomplicated ride, with very correct conformation and movement. She is a pleasure to take out and a heap of fun to ride! She did a great job in the CR Open Prelim 1.1 but was a little tired for the CR Open Nov 2.1. I look forward to seeing how she will progress this year”.
Our ’Junior' sponsored rider Darcy Flanagan rode her gorgeous pony Binnowie After Dark aka ‘Jimmy’ in the CR/IQ Under 13 Prelim 1.1 and the CR/IQ Junior Nov 2.2. Picking up a 2nd in the 1.1 and a 4th in the 2.2, it’s going to be very exciting following this young lady throughout the 2015 competition year.
We caught up with GHP senior sponsored rider Erin Flanagan at Crystal Cascades Horse Park and sat in on her lessons with the current Qld State Dressage Coach, Carlos DeCleermaeker. Erin tells us a little bit about her time spent with Carlos.
'This week I was able to participate in a clinic with Carlos DeCleermaeker, the current QLD State Dressage coach. Having had lessons with Carlos before, I knew that Jack and I were in for a hard 40mins of riding, working on gymnastisizing and strengthening both the horse and rider. The main focus of our lessons was to ensure that Jack remained over the back throughout his work, ensuring that he could truly engage his hindquarters and keep the rhythm of his paces throughout the more difficult movements. Carlos commented that Jack’s half-pass in both trot and canter was excellent and that he saw improvements in the tempi changes, canter pirouette and extended trot since our last lesson in November 2014. Participating in lessons with Carlos are always a fantastic opportunity and we look forward to consolidating what we have learned at the Far North Equestrian Group competition on April 19.
Guardian Horse Products have helped immensely to keep my horse healthy and happy over the wet season to ensure that we are well prepared for the start of the competition year.'
