Darcy Flanagan

**Welcome back to the 2017 Guardian Horse Products Sponsored Rider Team Darcy Flanagan**

2016 saw Darcy and her pony Binnowie After Dark (aka Jimmy) compete EA Official Pony Dressage Prelim and Novice.  This meant that they competed in Official Dressage classes at the FNEG and ATDDEA competitions along with the adult riders.  Darcy and Jimmy were very competitive and even beat the Warmbloods on occasion.

2016 was a busy year for Darcy and Jimmy as they sought to qualify for the IQ State Championship in Toowoomba in June.  Qualify they did for Primary Preliminary and Novice Dressage and for the Show Horse and Showman Classes.  They also entered the Open Freestyle Novice Class.

IQ State Champs at Toowoomba was a challenge – very wet and cold!  Day 1 Darcy rode two Prelim tests (placing 4th and 6th) and the Novice Freestyle.  Darcy was the only Primary rider in the Novice Freestyle and Jimmy was the only Pony and they placed 3rd out of 12 riders.  Day 2 was extremely cold and sleeting and unfortunately Jimmy pulled a muscle in his rump whilst warming up for the first Primary Novice Test.  He was scratched from the Novice and vet treatment and rest was arranged.  Despite the best of care he was not able to compete in the Show Horse and Showman classes.

In July 2016 Darcy was selected for the QLD IQ Primary Dressage Squad to compete at the Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships at SIEC in Sydney in September.  Darcy and Jimmy competed in both the Preliminary and Novice classes and were part of the winning QLD Team that took out the 2016 Australian Interschool Primary Preliminary Dressage Team Championship.

Prior to travelling to Sydney however Darcy and Jimmy continued to compete in their local club competitions and championships.  They placed well in the FNEG Championships and took out the ATDDEA Official Pony Preliminary Championship and were Reserve Champion in the Official Pony Novice Class.

Their hard work and dedication were also recognised by their local clubs, St Andrews Catholic College, Interschool QLD and DQ by being awarded:

  •  2016 FNEG Junior High Achiever Award Perpetual Trophy
  • 2016 ATDDEA Official Pony Dressage Preliminary and Novice Perpetual Trophies
  • 2016 ATDDEA Junior High Achiever Perpetual Trophy
  • St Andrews Catholic College Rising Star Equestrian Award
  • Finalist in the Dressage Queensland Diarmin Park Newcomer Young Rider of the Year and Sommerlyn Lisa Memorial Newcomer Pony of the Year awards
  • Recipient of 2016 Spirit of IQ Gold Award

**GHP welcomes back 'Junior' Sponsored Rider Darcy Flanagan for 2016**

Darcy and Jimmy are looking forward to the 2016 Competition year and will be competing in Official Pony Dressage classes (Preliminary and Novice to start with) at the FNEG and ATDDEA competitions.  Darcy and Jimmy are currently training Elementary/Medium level and plan to compete in Elementary classes by June 2016.

Darcy is also hoping to qualify for the IQ State Championships which will be held in Toowoomba at the end of June 2016.

As well as progressing her and Jimmy’s training Darcy is also working with her coach to get her new horse Benjaylin Flirtatious (aka Molly) ready for the 2016 dressage season.  Molly is a 7yo, 14.2hh Bay Registered Arabian Warmblood Mare. Molly is currently training Preliminary and Darcy hopes to compete her at the April ATDDEA competition.

In 2015 Darcy and Jimmy competed in IQ Tag On classes at FNEG and ATDDEA Dressage Competitions in FNQ.  Darcy and Jimmy qualified for and attended the 2015 State IQ Championships in Maryborough in June 2015 where they came 5th overall in the Primary Dressage Novice Class.  Darcy was contacted in early August by IQ and offered a place on the QLD State Squad to compete in the Primary Novice Class at the 2015 Australian Interschool Championships held in Sydney at the end of September. Despite the distance Darcy and Jimmy would have to travel, Darcy’s family accepted the offer and set off on a road trip to Sydney.  Darcy and Jimmy placed 14th overall in the Primary Novice.  Darcy felt that the competition itself was not the highlight of the trip. “Being there and being part of the QLD Team was the best part”.  Darcy was very happy that her pony travelled well and passed the vet inspection. She was extremely happy with how he handled the new environment at SIEC and performed in his daily rides, warmups and trail rides.  Darcy LOVED being part of the QLD squad and had the opportunity to renew some friendships that she made at Maryborough and made lots of new ones.

In November 2015 Darcy and Jimmy participated in their first Show Horse Competition at the FNQ Interschool Show Horse, Show Hunter and Show Jumping Championships hosted by Sugarbag Equestrian and IQ at the Earlville Pony Club grounds.  The Show Horse Competition consists of a Led Class, Hack Class and Rider Class.  Darcy and Jimmy won the 2015 FNQ IQ Primary Show Horse Champion.
